Fallout 4 is an action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth major installment in the Fallout series, and was released worldwide on November 10, 2015, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set within an open world post-apocalyptic environment that encompasses the city of Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts region known as “The Commonwealth". The main story takes place in the year 2287, ten years after the events of Fallout 3 and 210 years after “The Great War", which caused catastrophic nuclear devastation across the United States.
It's now painfully obvious that I play games differently to others. I had joked with a co-worker just before playing Borderlands 2 online with him for the first time that I played a very different style. From what he told me, he didn't expect what he saw. I was fearless, and that wasn't always a good thing. If there was a point that I had to get to, I was already half way there before he could turn around. I don't loot boxes for ammo, I just run, shoot, kill, pick up what ever was on them, and keep running. I don't think it's because I want to finish the game faster, I just don't see the point in us wasting time in a fictional world where death is not permanent. Sure, games such as The Last of Us, the Silent Hill series, The Evil Within and Alan Wake did change the way that I played for those game, but overall I still had this "throw caution to the wind" play style where I didn't care too much about the outcome be it good or bad.
Has it really been a week since Fallout 4 was released? Personally I don't believe the playtime on my save as I swear it added a day right from the start (I joke not). I haven't been speed running the game, but I also haven't been walking around smelling the irradiated roses. I've seen and experienced enough of this game to say that it is GOTY material, and that's taking into account Life is Strange which I recently finished, and the myriad of exploitable mechanics that have been discovered. Why would I say that? Well there is something about the world and it's inhabitants, the stories they bring and the way that you interact with them and the world. This game has been done right.
